Annual herb, 20-25 cm high. Stem erect, with deep longitudinal groove and winged protuberance. Leaves alternate; leaves ovate oblong or ovate lanceolate, 8-11 cm long, 3-4 cm wide, apex acuminate or obtuse, base cuneate, margin serrate, lateral veins about 5-7 pairs, distinct. Pedicel axillary, about 2 cm long, with 2 opposite bracts in the middle; sepals 2, green, ovoid, with short tip, one of which is longer, apex curled; petals orange red or slightly pale striated, 3 cm long, spur short, hook shaped, mid flower ridge raised; stamens 5, around ovary, anther united; ovary superior, style short. Capsule oblong, glabrous. The seeds are bright red. It blooms in autumn.
Most of them live in mountain and rock wetlands. Distributed in Guizhou, Jiangxi and other places.
