Herbs erect, perennial, up to 70 cm tall. The rhizome is slender and lying transversely; the stem is cylindrical, with deep longitudinal stripes on the surface, sparsely bristles, and the lower part is nearly smooth. 3-5 palmately compound leaves. It has 5-7 leaflets, and the petioles also have bristles. The leaflets are pinnately divided, 3-8 cm long and 1-3 cm wide. The lobes at both ends are smaller than those in the middle. The apex of the apical lobes is gradually pointed. The edge of the lobes is serrated. The leaves are thin, dark green on the top and light green on the bottom There are bristles on the upper part and tooth tip. Umbel single, terminal; total petiole much longer than petiole, surface nearly smooth, glabrous, with longitudinal stripes; petiole filiform; flowers bisexual, or unisexual and bisexual coexistence; calyx campanulate, apex 5-lobed; petals 5, ovate triangle; stamens 5, alternate with petals, filaments short; ovary inferior, 2-locular, style 2, base connate. Drupe berry shaped. The flowering period is July.
Wild in the hillside forest. Distributed in Yunnan, Sichuan, Gansu, Shaanxi and other places.

[herbal medicine] the dry rhizome is slender, the nodes are swollen like rings, the lateral growth is few, resulting in fine adventitious roots, the internodes are fine columnar, 4-6 cm long, 2 mm in diameter, the surface is light brown yellow, there are shallow longitudinal wrinkles, and the near nodes are slightly wide. It is hard in texture, yellow white in cross section, with many fine pores. The taste is bitter and slightly sweet.
Produced in Sichuan, Yunnan, Shaanxi and other places.
Functions and indications: stop bleeding and disperse blood stasis. It is used to treat hematemesis, bleeding, traumatic injury, low back pain.
