Shrubs, up to 3 m high. Stems erect; branchlets slender, angular, pubescent, or subglabrous. Leaves alternate, elliptic or ovate elliptic, 1.5-3 cm long and 1-2 cm wide, apex short, base cuneate, below sparsely pubescent, margin above middle denticulate; petiole short. 3-10 flowers in umbels, lateral on the branches of the previous year, with a few leaflike bracts at the base; calyx cup-shaped, apex 5-lobed; petals 5, broadly obovate, white; stamens many, shorter than petals; pistil style 5, separated, ovary superior. Follicles, apically with persistent style, glabrous. The flowering period is from April to May. The fruit period is from July to August.
It is found on both sides of hillsides and valleys, in mountain shrubs, roadsides and ditches. Distributed in Shandong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hunan, Fujian, Guangdong, Taiwan and other places.
