[source] it is the whole plant of Schisandra chinensis which is closely related to Magnoliaceae.
[plant morphology] Schisandra chinensis
Evergreen climbing shrubs. Taproot stout, cylindrical. Leaves alternate, sub leathery, ovate lanceolate to oblong, 5-15 cm long, apex acuminate, base obtuse, subentire or sparsely serrate. Flowers unisexual, axillary, 1-2, bracts narrowly triangular, about 1 mm in length and width; perianth segments outermost 3-5, small, triangular to subrenal, ciliate, inner 5 purplish red, elliptic to ovoid; stamens subglobose. Berries, bright red when hot. It blooms in summer.
It grows in sunny stone crevice or hillside shrub. It is distributed in Yunnan.
The stem and rattan decocting juice of this plant can be boiled to make Caulis Spatholobi ointment.
[collection] it can be harvested all year round. The roots and stems can be sliced and dried in the sun. The leaves can be dried or fresh.
