[plant morphology] Forsythia suspensa
Shrub, 1-1.5m high. The whole plant is smooth, glabrous, many branched, reddish brown. Leaves opposite, almost sessile; leaf blade ovate, apex rounded, base rounded or obtuse, entire, smooth green above, pink green below. Flowers solitary or cymose, usually terminal; sepals 5, green; petals 5, bright yellow, glossy, broadly obovate; style apex 5-lobed. Capsule ovoid.
Born on a roadside, hillside, or wilderness.

Bitter, cold.
Functions and indications: clearing away heat and toxin, removing wind and dampness, cooling blood and stopping bleeding, killing insects, relieving itching, treating acute and chronic hepatitis, cold, dysentery, stomatitis, ascariasis and dermatitis.
