Rattan is woody. The stem is brownish yellow with many yellow nodular protuberances, light yellow and fibrous in cross section. Pinnate compound leaves alternate, leaflets opposite, 11-17 pairs; leaflets oblong, 3-5 cm long, 1-2 cm wide. Flowers small, pink, axillary raceme. The pod is 5-9 cm long and contains 9-12 seeds.
