Alfalfa root
(Tang materia medica)
Another name: Radix Rehmanniae.
[source] it is the root of leguminous plant Medicago sativa or Medicago sativa. See "alfalfa" for plant morphology.
[chemical constituents] the root of Medicago sativa contains sugars. The root exudates contain amino acids, including 2-aminoadipic acid and two other unknown amino acids.
[pharmacological action] the root of Medicago sativa var. australis has weak antibacterial effect on Staphylococcus aureus, but no effect on Escherichia coli.

Functions and indications: clearing dampness and heat, diuresis. Treatment of jaundice, urinary calculi, night blindness.

[clinical application] treatment of night blindness
Take 1 liang of fresh alfalfa root, wash, chop and fry the soup, take it with dregs, once a day. 6 cases were treated, 4 cases were cured, 2 cases were invalid.
