[plant morphology] guafumu
Rattan shrub. Its young branches are yellow pilose. Leaves alternate, leathery, oblong to obovate elliptic, 6-13 cm long and 2.5-4.5 cm wide, apex acuminate or obtuse, base cuneate, glabrous above, middle vein below, upper branch sparsely hairy, lateral veins obvious; petiole about 1 cm long. Covered with yellow hair. Flowers 1-3 integrated into cymes; sepals 3, ovoid, hairy; petals 6, circumvolved; petals lanceolate, ovoid quadrangular, inner ring smaller, wide triangular; stamens many, connective slightly oblique; carpel long sericeous, separated, style curved, glabrous, stigma 2-lobed. Fruit globose, berrylike, about 1.5 cm in diameter, densely covered with yellowish brown villi, carpel about 3 cm long. Seeds round. The flowering period is from April to June. The fruiting period is November.
It grows in valleys, roadsides, streams, wet open forests. Distributed in Fujian, Taiwan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hunan, Jiangxi, Yunnan and other places.

[usage and dosage] oral administration: decoction, 1-2 Liang fresh.
[selection] ① for arthritis: two liang of fresh rattan root, two liang of fresh maple and lotus pear, one or two fresh, one or two fresh, one or two fresh, two or two fresh roots, one pig foot, stewed.
