Evergreen shrubs. Branches green, young with scaly hairs. Leaves opposite or 3-impeller-shaped; oblong lanceolate or ovate lanceolate, 7-14 cm long, 2-5 cm wide, apex acuminate or short pointed, entire, margin white, smooth on both sides, leathery; stipules membranous, base forming a sheath. Flowers large, solitary at the end of branches or axils, about 7 cm in diameter, white, very fragrant; calyx lobes 6, linear; corolla lobes broadly oblanceolate; stamens 6, anthers linear; ovary inferior, 1-locular, style thick, stigma rod-shaped. The fruit is obovate or oblong, 3-7 cm long, 1-1.5 cm in diameter, yellow, with high longitudinal edges, thick pericarp and persistent calyx. The flowering period is from May to July. The fruit period is from August to November.
It is distributed in the middle and south of China.
