The body is slender, slightly cylindrical, and the posterior segment is flat. The body length is about 7-8 cm. The head is flat. The mouth is small, the snout is short and blunt, and the mandible is slightly long. There were 1 row of fine teeth in the maxilla and 1 row of fine teeth in the mandible. The distance from the starting point to the rostrum is 2.5 times of that to the caudal base. The gluteal fin Ⅲ 21-24 is located behind the dorsal fin with a small transparent fat fin. The body is soft, without scales except for a row of large scales on both sides of the base of the anal fin of the male. In life, the whole body is transparent, and the shape of the brain can be clearly seen from the back of the head; after death, the body is milky white. Each fin is transparent and colorless, and each side of the body has a line of melanin dots on the ventral surface.
Living in lakes, they mainly feed on zooplankton, but also a small amount of shrimp and fry. The oviposition period is April. It is distributed in Taihu Lake of Jiangsu Province and many lakes along the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, especially Taihu Lake.
