[plant morphology] Croton glabra
Tree, 8-12m high, young part covered with stellate scales. Leaves alternate or subwhorled at the tip of branchlets, thin leathery, elliptic or oblong elliptic, 7-25 cm long and 3-9 cm wide, with scattered glandular denticles on the margin, 10-13 lateral veins on each side, glands at the base of leaves usually attached on both sides of midrib; petiole 1-5 cm long; stipules subulate, caducous. Raceme clustered at the top of branches, 15-30 cm long, covered with yellowish or brown stellate scales, female flowers scattered in the lower part of inflorescence axis, male flowers dense in the upper part; bracts triangular, covered with stellate scales outside; male calyx lobes ovate, with stellate scales outside, petals oblong; stamens 12-15; female petals filiform, alternate with calyx teeth; ovary spherical, style 2-lobed, style divided 6. Capsule obovate, covered with stellate scales. The flowering period is from September to February next year.
It grows in thickets of dense forest, sparse forest, valley, stream or hillside. It is distributed in Yunnan and Hainan.

Functions and indications: Tongjing Huoxue, Sanyu detumescence, antipyretic and analgesic. For traumatic injuries, fractures, malaria, stomachache.
