Perennial herb, stem tufted, 20-40 cm high. Leaves linear, 5-15 cm long, apex acute, both sides hairy. Bracts 2-4, leaflike, 8-35 mm long, long hairy, lateral cymes recur, with many hairy radial branches; spikelets oblong lanceolate, 6-10 mm long; flower scales ovate lanceolate, coarsely short hairy, brown, 1 midvein; stamens 3; stigmas 3. Nutlets obovate, trigonous, light brown or white. The flowering and fruiting period is from June to September.
Born on the top of a mountain, grass, or field. Distributed in Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, Taiwan, Hunan, Guizhou and other places.
