[source] it is the heartwood or root of Capparis mandshurica.
[plant morphology] bergamot, also known as sweet sugar, shuinongye and bergamot.
Evergreen trees, about 10 m high. The young branches and inflorescences are hairy. Single leaf opposite, papery, oblong to oblong, 6-15 cm long, 2.5-6 cm wide, narrowly pointed at both ends, sometimes slightly rounded or slightly concave at the apex, entire, bright; petiole 1-2 cm long. Corymb terminal or axillary, petiolate; calyx 4-piece, round, 0.6-0.8 mm long; petals bluish white, 4-petal, linear or narrow oblong, both sides margin involute, about 6 mm long, inner surface densely hairy; stamen 8, filament conical, both sides margin hairy below the middle of filament; pistil 1, ovary densely hairy, 4-locular; style slender, stigma 4-grooved. Drupe yellow, smooth, translucent, 8-10 mm in diam. Seeds with hard black testa. The flowering period is from June to July. The fruit period is from September to October (Hainan).
It grows in low humidity hilly land and broad-leaved forest. It is distributed in Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, Taiwan, etc.
