Perennial herbs. Rhizome transverse, with many fibrous roots. Stem erect, hollow, longitudinally furrowed, 25-110 cm high, upper part densely gray pubescent. Leaves 1-2, subbasal, 1-3-compound, long petiole; leaflets petiolate, ovate heart-shaped, central leaflet 5-20 cm long, 4-18 cm wide, 7-9 palmately lobed, margin serrate; lateral leaflets smaller. Spikes slender, 10-25 cm long, single or branched; flowers small, white, 4 mm in diameter, nearly sessile; sepals 4-5; stamens 8-numerous; carpels 1-2, glabrous. The pod is about 10 mm long, with many light brown seeds. The flowering period is from July to August.

It grows near or under the mountain forest. It is distributed in Guangdong, Zhejiang, Hunan, Guizhou, Henan, Anhui, Hubei, Sichuan, Gansu, Shaanxi, Shanxi, etc.
