[plant morphology] three pairs of nodes
Evergreen shrub, 2-4m high. The root is grayish brown. There are white lenticels on the surface of stem, and nodes are swollen. Leaf blade oblanceolate or elliptic, 16-25 cm long, 7-10 cm wide, apex long pointed, base tapering, decurrent, margin serrate, upper scattered pubescent, lower veins densely pubescent. Panicle terminal, peduncle densely covered with purple tomentose; bracts large, purplish red; calyx campanulate, apex truncate, persistent when bearing fruit; corolla simple usually slender, cylindric, margin spreading, with nearly uniform or irregular 5-lobes; stamens 4, inserted on corolla tube, protruding from corolla tube; style protruding, apex 2-lobed. The fruit is a berry shaped drupe.
It grows in mountains and forests. Distributed in Guizhou, Guangxi, Yunnan and other places.
The three pairs of nodes of its variety are also used as medicine. The main characteristics are long obovate leaves, base embracing stem.

[pharmacology] the water extract could block the contraction of ileum and trachea of guinea pigs by histamine, but not acetylcholine and barium chloride. Intravenous injection of histamine partially blocked the blood pressure response in dogs, but did not block the blood pressure changes induced by acetylcholine and epinephrine. The ethanol and chloroform extracts had no such blocking effect, and the ethanol precipitate of cold water extract had the strongest effect.
