[plant morphology] sanbaicao
Herbaceous perennial, 30-90 cm high. The underground stem has whisker like roots. Stem erect, or lower part prostrate, longitudinally ribbed, glabrous. The leaves are ovate or ovate lanceolate, 6-14 cm long and 3-7 cm wide, apex pointed or acuminate, base heart-shaped, slightly auricular, entire or nearly entire, green, glabrous on both sides, with 5 veins on the base; the leaves under the inflorescence of the stem end are 2 or 3 pieces, often turning white in early summer. Raceme, 14 cm long, opposite to the leaves, on the stem; pedicel and petiole hairy; bract oblanceolate, about 2 mm long, with fine hairs on the edge; flowers bisexual, perianthless, from the base of bract; stamen 6, filament as long as anther; pistil 1, 4 carpels united, ovary round, stigma 4, curved outward. The top of capsule dehisces after ripening. Seeds round. The flowering period is from May to August. The fruit period is from June to September.
It grows near ditches, swamps and other places with low humidity and near water. Distributed in Hebei, Shandong, Anhui, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Guangdong, Hunan, Hubei, Jiangxi, Sichuan and other places.

[collection] it can be harvested in all seasons, washed and dried in the sun. From July to September, the aboveground parts were harvested and dried in the sun.
[chemical constituents] the whole herb contains volatile oil, the main component of which is methyl-n-nonone. The stem contained 1.722% hydrolyzable tannin. The content of quercetin, quercetin, isoquercetin, rutin, rutin and hydrolyzable tannin in leaves was 0.544%.
