[plant morphology] autumn papaya, also known as papaya flower.
Semi evergreen shrub, up to 4 m high. The branches are spiny, and the young branches are densely covered with yellow pubescence. Leaves leathery, usually 4-7 clustered on short branches; stipules not obvious, falling off in the same year; leaves oblong, 3-12 cm long, 1-3 cm wide, apex pointed, base narrowly cuneate, margin densely irregularly serrate, dark green above, glossy, glabrous below, light green, sparsely pilose; petioles red, 2-7 mm long, slightly pilose. The flowers are dark red, funnel-shaped, 3-4 cm long, usually 3 clusters; one or two abnormal leaves are under the inflorescence; pedicel is very short; calyx tube is 2-3 cm long, green, purplish red, with white powder; sepals are oval triangular, yellow villous on the inner surface and edge; petals are round, with short claws, 2 cm in diameter; stamens are about 30, 14 mm in length, purplish red, filamentous, anther long Ovary inferior, 5-locular, style 5, base united, sparsely pubescent, as long as stamens, stigma densely papillate. Pear oval, 7-10 cm long, both ends concave, mature yellow or yellow green, sometimes red, smooth, fragrant. Seeds flat, triangular. The flowering period is from April to May. The fruit period is from October to November.
Cultivated or wild. It is distributed in Yunnan, Sichuan and other places.
