Evergreen climbing vines, 8 m long. Stem green, thick, rooting at node. The leaves are large, oblong, 40-50 cm long and 30-35 cm wide, pinnately lobed, usually almost reaching midrib. Fleshy inflorescence sessile, cylindrical, about 20 cm long, supporting a large white Buddha flame bracts, bracts often fall off.

Climbing bean root

(Guizhou folk medicine)

[source] it is the root of leguminous plant Sparganium hangzi.

[plant morphology] Sparganium hangzishao, also known as Sparganium multiflorum, Arachis kaempferi, Sophora flavescens, Vicia faba root, Sparganium ramosissima.

Small shrubs, 60-120 cm high. Branchlets triangular, glabrous. Leaves alternate; leaflets 3, long elliptic, 4.5-8 cm long, 1.5-2.5 cm wide, apex rounded or slightly concave, base suborbicular, entire, covered with white hairs below, lateral leaflets smaller; petioles winged, petioles densely covered with white hairs; stipules persistent, lanceolate. Acute, base decurrent. Panicle terminal, pedicel angulate, pubescent; bracts persistent, linear lanceolate; calyx campanulate, outside densely covered with long white hairs, apex 5-toothed; lower one longer; corolla yellow, 8-10 mm long, flag petal ovoid, keel sharp, inward right angle curved. Pods obliquely elliptic, 7 mm long, all hairy. The flowering period is from August to September.
