Annual herb, 20-50 cm high, with dense glandular hairs. Main root rent, with wood. The stem is erect, or the lower part is inclined, with more branches in the upper and middle parts. Leaves opposite; basal leaves slightly spoon shaped, middle and upper leaves lanceolate, apex pointed, base broad, half embracing stem. Cyme terminal; calyx campanulate, upper part narrow, base expanded, apex 5-lobed. Lobes subulate lanceolate, calyx vein 30; petals 5, purple, obovate, apex sometimes concave, base claw, claw has two ears, and petals connected with 9 scales; stamens 10; ovary long ovate, style 3. Capsule ovate or conic, apex 5-lobed. Seeds kidney shaped, with numerous verrucous processes. The flowering period is April.
Born in fields, roadsides, grass or wheat fields. It is distributed in the north and the middle of China.
