[chemical composition] contains 4.93% tannin (dry weight). Each kilogram of fresh willow leaves contains 10 mg of iodine, thousands of times higher than the general food.

Functions and indications: clearing away heat, penetrating rash, diuresis and detoxification. It can be used to treat the skin rash, such as poor penetration, white turbidity, sore, furuncle, mastitis, goiter, erysipelas, scald and toothache.

[clinical application] 1

Willow twigs and leaves made of injection (1 g of crude drug per milliliter), intramuscular injection, 2 times a day, 2 ml each time, children's discretion. Clinical observation of 120 cases of upper respiratory tract infection, tracheitis, pneumonia, furuncle, cystitis, suppurative parotitis, mastitis, pharyngitis and other kinds of inflammation, results 107 cases were cured, accounting for 89.1%.

Fresh willow leaf ointment was applied to the wound surface, and the dressing was changed once a day.

⑧ Treatment of hypertension

Fresh willow leaves 0.5 Jin, add water to fry 100 ml, 2 times. Six days is a course of treatment. After a course of treatment, 28 cases were reduced to normal, 8 cases were decreased (diastolic blood pressure decreased more than 10 mmHg), but did not return to normal, 2 cases had no change. Among the 28 cases which were reduced to normal, 19 cases were observed for half a month, of which 13 cases were cured. The dizziness, headache, insomnia, dreaminess, nocturia and dry mouth in more than half of the cases were significantly relieved. Chest X-ray reexamination showed that 5 of 6 cases with prolonged aortic arch recovered to normal. 13 cases of fundus examination, part of the improvement. There were 2 cases of epigastric discomfort and 2 cases of urticaria after taking the medicine.

④ Treatment of endemic goiter

The willow leaves were made into sugar coated tablets (each tablet is equivalent to 2G of crude medicine) for oral administration, starting with 8-10 tablets per day, 2-3 times for 3-4 weeks, and then 3 times a day, 5 tablets per time until recovery. The dosage should be reduced for children. After the first stage of treatment, 34 of 54 patients were improved: the neck circumference was reduced by 1 cm, the swelling was reduced by 1 degree or more, and the symptoms were improved. No side effects were found. According to the determination, willow leaves are rich in iodine, reaching 10000 micrograms per kilogram of fresh products. The effect of single tablet is more obvious for diffuse mild cases; if it is combined with kelp, xanthate and baiyaozi to make compound tablet, the curative effect will be improved.
