[plant morphology] Ranunculus Japonicus
Annual herbs. Stem erect, 30-80 cm high, sometimes up to 90 cm; branched from base, glabrous. The leaves are opposite, the leaves at the top of the stem are small, sometimes undivided, the leaves at the middle and lower parts of the stem are pinnately divided or deeply divided; the lobes are 3-5, ovate lanceolate to narrowly lanceolate; the petioles are thin subovate, base cuneate, sparse suborbicular, apex pointed or acuminate, margin sparsely irregularly serrate, the apical lobes are usually larger than those at the bottom; the petioles are winged. Inflorescence terminal, spherical or oblate; involucre bracts 2-row, inner row lanceolate, dry membranous, as long as or slightly shorter than the head, outer row lanceolate or oblanceolate, longer than the head, leafy; flowers are tubular, yellow; stigma 2-lobed. Achene flat, oblong obovate or obovate cuneate, 4.5-9 mm long, about 1.5-2.2 mm in diameter, the edge of a small inverted thorns, both sides of the central only a longitudinal rib, both sides of the upper end of the thorns have always been up, thorns on a small counter thorns. The flowering period is from August to September. The fruiting period is October.

This product and its same genus Bidens pilosa are called "bean dregs grass" in Sichuan area, and used equally. Bidens pilosa is one of the main varieties of the herb "jinzhanyinpan" in Guangdong and Guangxi. Please refer to "jinzhanyinpan".

[chemical constituents] hay contains volatile oil (0.11%), tannin (2.01%), luteolin, benrhinogenin-7-glucoside and other flavonoids. The leaves contain about 160 mg% vitamin C. The oil content of the fruit was 23.78%.
[pharmacological action] quancao extract can sedate, depress blood pressure and slightly increase the amplitude of heart beat when injected into animals; it can diuresis and perspire when taken orally.
