[plant morphology] kutiao
Annual herb, 25-60 cm high. Stems decumbent or erect, much branched, hairy or subglabrous. Leaves alternate, ovoid or oblong, 4-8 cm long, 3-5 cm wide, apex short pointed, base obliquely rounded, entire or irregularly shallowly serrate: petiole up to 4 cm long. Flowers solitary in leaf axils; pedicels ca. 5 mm long; calyx campanulate, ca. 5 mm long, upper 5-lobed, lobes lanceolate or subtriangular, apical; corolla campanulate, pale yellow, 5-7 mm in diameter; stamens 5, anthers oblong, longitudinally lobed; ovary 2-locular, style linear, stigma with two unidentified lobes. Berry globose, ca. 8 mm in diam., smooth glabrous, yellowish green; persistent calyx enlarged at fruiting, inflated as lantern, up to 2.5 cm long, 5-angled, green, hairy. The flowering period is from July to September. The fruit period is from August to October.
It grows in the field and distributes all over the country.

Functions and indications: clearing away heat, diuresis and detoxification. Treatment of cold, lung heat, cough, sore throat, gingival swelling, damp heat, jaundice, dysentery, edema, heat, pemphigus, sores.
① Jiangxi folk herbal medicine: "it is used to treat pemphigus, big head wind, finger sores, swollen and painful gums, jaundice due to damp heat, sore throat, cough due to lung heat and hot shower. "

⑧ Treatment of gingival swelling and pain: bitter eight money. Gargle with boiling water. (Jiangxi folk herbal medicine)
④ Treatment of damp heat jaundice, throat swelling pain, lung heat cough. Heat drenching: bitter five money to eight money. Take it in water. (Jiangxi folk herbal medicine)
⑤ Treatment of edema (Yang water syndrome): bitter one or two to one or two five money. Water fried, divided into two, oral before meals. (prescription of Jiangxi folk herbal medicine)
⑥ Treatment of pemphigus: bitter stems and leaves of three, four Liang. Wash in boiling water twice a day. Fresh grass is better.
⑦ Cure big head wind, head surface is swollen and bright, have a knot in one's heart piece, itch: bitter stem leaf two Liang. Fried water, put in the basin, surrounded by a cloth smoked. Fresh grass is better.

[clinical application] ① treatment of chronic tracheitis
The nepenthes made into syrup oral, 3 times a day, 10 days a course of treatment, a total of three courses of treatment. After each course of treatment, the drug was stopped for 3-5 days. According to the dosage, they were divided into three groups: the first high-dose group: the daily dosage was equivalent to 150 grams of crude drugs. 50 cases were observed, 49 cases were effective, 39 cases were markedly effective. The second medium dose group: the daily dose was equivalent to 100 grams of crude drug. 45 cases were observed, 16 cases were markedly effective, 37 cases were total effective. Three small dose group: 50 grams of dry crude drug per day. 91 cases were observed, 36 cases were markedly effective, and 67 cases were total effective. The antitussive, expectorant and antiasthmatic effects of the product were obvious, and the onset time was generally 3-6 days after taking the drug. The curative effect of simple type is better than that of wheezing type. Side effects: a small number of stomach discomfort, dizziness, headache and insomnia.
② Treatment of jaundice
Two plants of Nepenthes (whole plant) were decocted with concentrated juice and appropriate amount of sugar, 2-3 times a day. 5 cases were cured.
③ Treatment of orchitis
2 liang of bulrush and 1 liang of wampee root, fried in water. Once a day for 2 days. More than 20 cases were treated, and good results were achieved.
④ Treatment of bacillary dysentery
Kutiao 1 liang, decoction, twice a day, for 1-4 days. The effective rate was 95%.
