Annual erect herb, about 1 m high, 2-branched, glabrous or sparsely hairy. Leaves opposite, petiolate; leaf blade ovate lanceolate to elliptic ovate, 7-13 cm long, 3-6 cm wide, apex short, base decurrent, margin denticulate, 3 main veins. Inflorescence sessile or subsessile, axillary or terminal, terete, ca. 1 cm long; involucre several, outermost leaflike, inner layer dry membranous scaly; marginal flower female, ligulate, yellow; middle bisexual flower tubular, 4-toothed. The achenes of female flowers are flat, with 2 lacerated wings; the achenes of bisexual flowers are cylindrical, with verrucae and hard spines at the top of the horn. It blooms in spring.
Born in the open field, ditch. It is distributed in the south of China.
