[plant morphology] Buddleja macrophylla, also known as Buddleja.
Shrub, 1-5m high. Branches long and diffuse, twigs tetragonal, densely covered with white stellate villi. Leaves opposite, lanceolate, 11-13 cm long, 3-4 cm wide, apex acuminate, base cuneate, margin densely serrate, green above, densely covered with white tomentose below; stipules atrophied into a band, between 2 leaves. Spike, erect or slightly pendulous; calyx campanulate, 4-lobed, lobes lanceolate, densely stellate tomentose; corolla tubular, 0.7-1 cm long, 4-lobed, purple, usually smooth or slightly pilose outside, throat orange yellow; stamens 4, inserted in the middle of corolla; ovary superior, stigma rod-shaped. Capsule oblong, apex pointed, 6-8 mm long. The flowering period is from March to April. The fruit period is from May to June.
It grows in the gully, roadside, foot of mountain or bush. It is distributed in Shaanxi, Hunan, Hubei, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan and other places.
The varieties of this plant, Buddleja purpurea and Buddleja Muping, are also used as medicine.
