[plant morphology] Euonymus japonicus (Youyang Zazu), also known as Euonymus japonicus (Lvyan materia medica), Qiannianai, xiaohuangza (classified herbal medicine), bairihong, evergreen, Douban and Guazi Euonymus japonicus.
Evergreen shrubs or small trees, 1-3 meters high. The bark is gray, the cork is regularly peeled, the stems and branches are quadrangular, and the outer scales of twigs and winter buds are short hairy. Leaves opposite, leathery, round or obovate to elliptic lanceolate, usually wider above middle, apex slightly concave, base narrowly cuneate, 1-3 cm long, 7-15 mm wide, base and petiole of lower midrib hairy. Flowers unisexual, monoecious, spikes axillary; female flowers in the upper part of the inflorescence, sepals 6, arranged in two rows; male flowers sepals 4, degenerated ovary, sepals equal length. Capsule globose, composed of 3 carpels, 3-valved along the ventricles, black at maturity, ca. 1 cm in diameter. The flowering period is April. The fruit ripens in July.
It grows in mountainous and rocky places. It is distributed in Shandong, Shaanxi, Gansu, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Hubei, Yunnan, Sichuan and other places. Now it is cultivated for ornamental use in all provinces.

Euonymus tenuifolia, also known as Euonymus japonicus, is distributed in Shandong, Jiangsu, Fujian, Hubei, Sichuan, Yunnan and Guizhou. It is also used in the same way.

Functions and indications: dispelling wind and dampness, regulating qi and relieving pain. Treatment of rheumatic pain, chest and abdominal distension, toothache, colic, traumatic injury.

[formula selection] treatment of traumatic injury: a wine soaked suit made of Euonymus japonicus.
