[plant morphology] eggplant with yellow fruit

5-0. 7 m high. The stems and leaves are covered with 0.5-2 cm long spines or stellate hairs. Leaves simple, alternate, elliptic or ovate, 4-7 cm long and 2.5-4 cm wide, apex pointed or obtuse, margin undulate or deeply lobed. 2-5 flowers in lateral cymes; calyx 5-lobed, spiny; corolla campanulate, 5-lobed, blue purple, hairy outside. Berry globose, yellow, pale green and dark green reticulate when not heated, sepals persistent. The flowering period is from June to July.

It is found in the dry places near villages, roadsides, wasteland and river valleys. Distributed in Fujian, Guangxi, Yunnan and other places.

[collection] root: harvested in summer and autumn; fruit: harvested in autumn and winter, washed, dried or fresh.

[chemical constituents] the fruit contains solanine and solanine, which are sugar containing alkaloids. After hydrolysis, solanine or solanine and glucose, rhamnose and galactose are produced respectively. It also contains fatty oil and sterols; fatty oil is semi dry, its fatty acids are oleic acid 42.93%, linoleic acid 36.18%, palmitic acid 5.37%, stearic acid 9.77%, and one of sterols is solanesterol. It contains diosgenin, 5.9% ash, K, Na, Mg and trace Fe, CL.

[pharmacological action] this plant is commonly used in India to treat cough, fever and heart disease. The alcohol extract and the alkaloid aconitine part of the whole herb have cardiotonic effect. The contraction and tension of isolated frog heart, cat atrium, ventricular muscle and papillary muscle can be enhanced at a certain concentration, but if the concentration is too high, the contraction force will be reduced. The systolic amplitude and blood pressure of atria and ventricles of intact dogs were also increased. The content of histamine in lung and bronchus of guinea pigs was significantly decreased (80%) after long-term administration, but the histamine in skin and stomach was slightly increased; the injection of 2 mg / kg sugar alkaloid intraperitoneally for two weeks had protective effect on guinea pigs sensitized by egg white. The therapeutic effect on bronchial patients may be related to the depletion of histamine in the bronchus and lung; in addition, the inorganic nitrate contained in it also has some expectorant effects. The crude extract, alcohol extract of leaf and stem and resinous components also have some histamine releasing effects.

[prescription selection] 1. To treat orchitis: seven yellow eggplant roots, five Verbena roots, seven lantern roots, stewed with pig kidney, stewed with green shell duck egg.
