Shrubs, height about 80 cm. The roots are globose underground, with white inside and sweet juice. New branches brownish yellow, densely hirsute and pilose. Single leaf alternate; leaf blade leathery; obovate, entire, slightly retrovolved, above bright green, glossy, below gray green; petiole hairy. Raceme axillary or branch terminal, densely hairy; bracts linear or linear lanceolate; calyx shallow cup-shaped, 5-lobed, margin ciliated; corolla pot shaped, bell shaped, milky white, 5-toothed; stamens 10, anthers abaxially 2-awned; ovary inferior. Small berry globose, deep purple red. The flowering period is from May to June. The fruit period is from July to August.
