Semenlagenaria siceraria

[source / prescription] this product is the dried seeds of lagenaria siceraria (Molina) Standl. Before and after the beginning of winter, the fruits were picked, the seeds were taken out and dried in the sun.

[character] the product is oblong or oval, 1.2-1.8cm long and 0.6cm wide. The surface is light brown or light white, smooth, and has four symmetrical dark patterns on both sides. The patterns are densely covered with yellowish villi, one end is flat or heart-shaped concave, and the other end is gradually pointed or blunt. To species, the cortex is hard and brittle, cotyledons 2, milky white, rich in oil. It's slightly sweet.

[identification] the powder is yellowish brown. The epidermis cells of seed coat are polygonal or irregular, with thin wall, straight or curved anticlinal wall and outer cuticle. The sclerenchyma cells of seed coat mostly exist in pieces, with large cells, thick wall, yellowish brown, polygonal or irregular shape, about 50 μ m in diameter and about 100 μ m in length, lignified, round or oblong pit, and obvious pit groove. The stone cells are light yellow, small, thick walled, rectangular or quasi circular, with a few branches and wavy curved walls. The stellate cells have many fragments, irregular shape, branched into stellate shape, the boundary is not obvious, with several branches or processes, the wall is curved, lignified, and the cell cavity is irregular. The hypodermic cells of seed coat are oblong, flat, and the anticlinal wall is slightly thick. The cotyledon cells were filled with aleurone granules, 2-15 μ m in diameter, and contained fat oil droplets and lipid substances. After permeating with chloral hydrate, the lipid substances fell off in pieces, and the traces of aleurone granules after melting could be seen. Endosperm cells are polygonal, full of oil droplets and aleurone particles, and less than 2 μ m in diameter. The debris cells of aril are oblong, arranged in mosaic, thin, slightly curved or straight. Cilia are numerous, varying in length, about 100 μ m long, straight or slightly wavy curved.
