[plant morphology] Perilla frutescens
Perennial short herb, 10-25 cm high, densely pilose. The stem is square. Branches from base, tufted, erect or base slightly inclined, surface green or purplish. Leaf blade linear lanceolate or obovate lanceolate, 1.5-2.8 cm long, 0.4-0.9 cm wide, apex obtuse or slightly pointed, base cuneate, upper leaf margin crenate; petiole 1.5 cm long, apical leaf subsessile. The spike is terminal and consists of several layers of Cymbidium clusters growing in the axils of bracts; there are 2-4 flowers in each round with short stalks; there are 2 broad ovate bracts under the flowers, connate; the Corolla is 2-lipped, light reddish purple, with dense white long hairs, the upper lip is 3-lobed, erect, the lobes are blunt and round, the middle lobe is slightly larger, the lower lip is slightly longer, and curved outwards. 4 nutlets, ovate. It blooms in early winter.
It grows on hillside, roadside grass or under shrub. It is distributed in Yunnan, Guizhou and other places.
