Herbaceous Liana. The rhizome is transverse. Stem slender, glabrous, longitudinally rugose or shallowly grooved, sometimes slightly protruding on both sides of branch or petiole base, or spinose. Leaves alternate, shield shaped; leaf blade triangular ovate or long ovate, 5-11 cm long, 4-9 cm wide, margin shallowly undulate, base cordate or nearly truncate, usually 3-lobed, central lobe apex acuminate, bilateral lobes rounded auricular; petiole shorter than leaf blade. Flowers unisexual, dioecious; male inflorescence spicate, axillary, sometimes branched; flowers sessile, often 2-3 clusters, only 1-2 fully developed; bracts membranous, ovate or triangular ovate; perianth 6, ovate, purplish red, stamen 6; female inflorescence 6-8 flowers, flowers with short stalks, perianth 6-lobed, stamen degenerate; ovary long cylindrical.
