Herbaceous Liana. The rhizome is transverse. Stem slender, glabrous, longitudinally rugose or shallowly grooved, sometimes slightly protruding on both sides of branch or petiole base, or spinose. Leaves alternate, shield shaped; leaf blade triangular ovate or long ovate, 5-11 cm long, 4-9 cm wide, margin shallowly undulate, base cordate or nearly truncate, usually 3-lobed, central lobe apex acuminate, bilateral lobes rounded auricular; petiole shorter than leaf blade. Flowers unisexual, dioecious; male inflorescence spicate, axillary, sometimes branched; flowers sessile, often 2-3 clusters, only 1-2 fully developed; bracts membranous, ovate or triangular ovate; perianth 6, ovate, purplish red, stamen 6; female inflorescence 6-8 flowers, flowers with short stalks, perianth 6-lobed, stamen degenerate; ovary long cylindrical. The capsule is blue black after drying, with white powder on its surface. Its wings are nearly half moon shaped, about 2.5 cm long and 1.5 cm wide. Its top is slightly concave or nearly truncated, its base is narrow and round, its seeds are oblate and oval, and its wings are membranous. The flowering period is from May to August. The fruit period is from September to October.
