[plant morphology] Daphne odorifera
Evergreen shrub, 1-2m high. Branches yellowish gray, young branches glabrous or almost glabrous, sheath fibers long and tough. Leaves alternate, oblong to oblanceolate, 6-12 cm long, 1-3 cm wide, apex acuminate, base narrowly cuneate, entire, glabrous on both sides. Flowers 8-12 clustered, apical; bracts abaxially filiform puberulent, usually caducous; flowers white, fragrant; perianth tubular, 12-15 mm long, densely pubescent, 4-lobed, lobes often 1 / 3 of tube length, outside usually glabrous or very sparsely puberulent along midvein. Drupe orange red, globose, 4.5 mm in diam., with 1-2 seeds.
It grows under sparse forest and shrub on hillside. It is distributed in Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan.
