[plant morphology] Liriodendron chinense, also known as gudingci, Liriodendron chinense, Erythrina, yuntuo, Liriodendron chinense, Dingmu, niaobushu, shangshanhu, Dingpi, Dingtong, eupodium, Ailanthus altissima, yapodium.
Deciduous trees, up to 30 meters high. Branchlets coarsely spiny. Leaves alternate on long branches, clustered on short branches; papery; leaves nearly round, 7-25 cm in diameter, palmately 5-7-lobed, lobes triangular ovate to oblong ovate, apex long pointed, margin only serrate, upper green; petiole 6-30 cm long. The umbel is composed of terminal panicles, 15-25 cm in diameter, 4-14 cm in pedicel length, 5-12 mm in pedicel length, smooth calyx with five teeth, 5 petals in triangular oval shape arranged in tweezers, 5 stamens with slender filaments, 2-locular ovary, cylindrical style, 2-lobed apex. Fruit nearly spherical, about 5 mm in diameter. 2 blue black seeds, flat. The flowering period is from July to August. The fruit period is from September to October.
It grows in valley, stream, forest edge or sparse forest. It's distributed across the country several times.
The root or root bark of this plant (Liriodendron chinense root) is also used for medicine. Please refer to the special section for details. Branches are used in Jiangsu and Zhejiang Province as "birds do not stay".
[collection] it can be harvested all year round, peeled, washed and dried.
[medicinal material] the dried bark is in roll or strip shape, with different length and width, and 1-2 mm thick. The surface of the cork is rough, gray white to gray brown, with deep longitudinal cracks and transverse small cracks, scattered yellow round punctate pores, and longitudinal spikes; the spikes are 1-3cm long and 5-10mm wide, gray white, with black spots, sharp tip or blunt head, long round base; the spikes fall off, exposing yellow endothelium. The inner surface is yellow or purplish red, smooth and longitudinal. The material is hard and the fracture surface is flaky. Weak Qi, bitter taste. It is better to be dry, thick and prickly.
Produced in Sichuan, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Guizhou and other places.
This product is used as Pittosporum bark in Sichuan, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui and other places. Please refer to "Pittosporum bark".
[chemical constituents] tannins in bark and leaves are 13-30%, and polyynes in bark and heartwood. The stems and leaves reacted with cardiac glycosides and anthracosides. The seed contains 38.65% fat oil.
This product also contains flavonoid glycosides, coumarin glycosides, a small amount of alkaloids, volatile oil, saponins, resin and starch. Saponins are triterpenoid saponins, and aglycones are Ivy saponins.
