[plant morphology] perennial perennial herbs, all glabrous. Roots cylindrical, many branched. The stem height is 40-80 cm. The leaf blade is broad ovate in outline, the leaflets are pinnately divided, the lobes are narrowly lanceolate and entire, and the petiole is 1-5cm long. Flowers red, solitary, stem apex; sepals 5, ovate, bracts 3-5, lanceolate; carpels 2-4 (~ 5); carpels ovate, seeds black. The flowering period is from June to July and the fruiting period is from July to August.

[character] the root is cylindrical, slightly twisted and 0.5-4cm in diameter. It is hard and brittle, with yellowish white and lavender cross section; the skin is narrow, sometimes separated from the wood, and the radial texture of the wood is obvious, sometimes with cracks between the radial texture of the wood. It is fragrant, slightly sweet and astringent.

This product is used as radix paeoniae rubra in Xinjiang.
[note] Radix Paeoniae Rubra is the root of P. lactiflora Pall. It has the function of clearing heat and cooling blood, dispersing blood stasis and relieving pain. It is used for hematemesis, bleeding, abdominal pain due to amenorrhea and angina pectoris due to coronary heart disease.
