Deciduous shrub, more than 4 meters high. Leaves opposite, ovate or obovate, 8-15 cm long, apex acuminate, base rounded to shallowly cordate, margin with sharp teeth, lower veins and petioles densely hirsute. Corymbose cyme terminal, rachis densely hirsute; flower type 2, peripheral sterile flowers, only a large sepal, obovate or elliptic ovate, apex obtuse, sepal stalk 3-5 mm long, densely hirsute; pregnant flower small, sepal 5, petal 5; stamen 10; style 1. Capsule obconic, with 10 longitudinal ribs. The seed is linear. The flowering period is from May to June.
It grows in the sparse forest on the hillside or near the forest edge and rock. It is distributed in East and South China.

Bitter and warm.
Functions and indications: dispel wind and dampness, remove heat and toxin. It is used to treat blood stasis, gout of muscles and bones, sore toxin, redness and swelling.
