Perennial erect herbs, up to 1 m high. Stem brown, single or branched, nodes usually expanded, leaves lanceolate, 6-12 cm long, 1-1.5 cm wide, apex acuminate, both sides with hair and small glandular points, sometimes glabrous, but veins and leaf margins often have close bristles; Stipule sheath tubular, outside also have close bristles, edge eyelashes longer. The inflorescence is spicate, over 10 cm long; the bracts are ciliate, with 4-6 flowers inside, and the pedicels extend out of the bracts; the perianth is 5-lobed, white or light red, 2.5-6 mm long; the style is 3. Achene ovoid, protruding on both sides, about 2 mm long, black and smooth, all enclosed in the persistent perianth, flowering in September to October.
Wild in ditches or roadside grass. It is distributed in Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, Fujian, Sichuan, Hubei, Guangdong and Taiwan.
