[plant morphology] conifer
Shrub, 0.6-1.7 m high. Branchlets, inflorescences and dorsal veins of leaves were covered with brown stellate hairs at the beginning and then shed. Leaves opposite, ovate, long elliptic, 10-21 cm long, 4-13 cm wide, apex acuminate, base rounded or shallowly cordate, margin irregularly shallowly serrated, 5-7 main veins, numerous parallel veinlets between veins; long petiole, a pair of leaves below the upper inflorescence sessile. Panicle terminal; calyx, petals are purplish red; calyx tubular, stellate hair, apex with 4 teeth; petals 4, obovate, apex acuminate; stamens 8, 4 longer, anthers S-shaped, purple, 4 shorter, anthers straight, yellow; ovary inferior, 4-locular, style S-shaped. Capsule fusiform, loculicidal, 8-ribbed. Seeds numerous, falcate.
Born in the mountains and jungles. It is distributed in the southwest of China.
