Donald Tsang
Donald Tsang was born in Hong Kong in October 1944. He graduated from Hua Ren college in 1964. He received a master's degree in public administration from Harvard University in 1981. The second and third chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
After joining the British Hong Kong Government in 1967, he took up many important positions, mainly in finance and trade. He was the first financial secretary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government on July 1, 1997. He served as Chief Secretary for administration in May 2001. On March 12, 2005, in accordance with the provisions of the basic law of Hong Kong, the acting chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region was appointed as the Chief Secretary for administration. On April 2, 2007, Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council signed State Council Order No. 490, appointing Donald Tsang as chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the people's Republic of China for a term of office from July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2012.
Mr Tsang received honorary doctorates from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He was awarded the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Great Bauhinia medal in 2002.
In 2017, Donald Tsang was convicted of misconduct of public officials, sentenced to 20 months in prison, then commuted to 12 months, and released from prison on January 15, 2019. On June 26, 2019, the Hong Kong Court of Final Appeal ruled that Donald Tsang's "conviction for misconduct of public officials" was revoked.
