Wu Heng
Wu Heng (1914-1999) was born in Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province. Geologist, information scientist, member of the academic department of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, deputy director and consultant of the State Science and Technology Commission of the people's Republic of China.
Wu Heng studied in the Department of Geosciences of Tsinghua University in 1934, joined the Communist Party of China in 1936, served as secretary and liaison director of the Youth Work Committee of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in Yan'an in 1939, served as a teacher of the Department of Geology and mineral resources of Yan'an Academy of natural sciences in 1941, and successively served as deputy director of the Research Office of Jijiang provincial Party committee, head of duerbert banner, head of Fuyu County, director of Nenjiang enterprise bureau and director of Heilongjiang Industry Bureau in 1945 In 1952, he served as secretary general and Secretary of the Party group of the Northeast Branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; in 1954, he served as deputy secretary general, member of the academic department and Deputy Secretary of the Party group of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; in 1955, he was elected member of the academic Department (academician) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; in 1978, he served as deputy director and consultant of the State Science Commission; in 1984, he was elected member of the academic department of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Executive chairman of the presidium: he died in Beijing on January 15, 1999 at the age of 85; on March 6, 2004, the asteroid Nomination Committee of the International Astronomical Union officially approved the name of the asteroid with international number 56088 as "wuheng star".
Wu Heng has done a lot of pioneering work for the establishment of China's scientific research institutions management system, postgraduate system, scientific reward system, scientific and technological information cause and patent system.

In 1954, he served as Deputy Secretary General of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, member of the academic department, deputy secretary of the Party group of the Academy, and Deputy Secretary General of the Science Planning Commission of the State Council.
In 1955, he participated in the preparatory work of the academic department of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and was elected as a member of the academic department of the Ministry of Geosciences.
In 1957, he served as Deputy Secretary General of the Planning Commission of the State Council.
In 1958, after the establishment of the State Science and Technology Commission, he served as deputy director until 1966.
In 1972, he served as Deputy Secretary of the Party group of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
In 1977, the State Science and Technology Commission resumed its post as executive deputy director and Deputy Secretary of the Party group.
In 1984, he was elected as the executive chairman of the presidium of CAS at the fifth conference of CAS.
He died in Beijing on January 15, 1999 at the age of 85.
Main achievements
Achievements in scientific research
Wu Heng participated in the preparation for the establishment of Yan'an Academy of natural sciences in the 1940s, and carried out investigation and Research on mineral resources in Shaanxi, Gansu and Ningxia. In the 1940s, he presided over the preparation, leadership and development of scientific research in Northeast China, and made contributions to the recovery and development of economic construction and science and technology in Northeast China. After 1955, he participated in leading the establishment of the academic department of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and led the formulation of three national long-term plans for science and technology, as well as the National Conference on science and technology in 1962 and the National Science Conference in 1978. He presided over the drafting of China's first "China Patent Law" and won the World Intellectual Property Organization's highest honorary award "gold medal for invention and creation".

Commemoration of later generations
On March 6, 2004, the asteroid Nomination Committee of the International Astronomical Union officially approved the official name of the asteroid 56088, discovered by the National Astronomical Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences on January 14, 1999, as "wuheng star", in order to praise and commemorate the late outstanding leader and organizer of science and technology in China.
