In the novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Guan Xing is described as a brave general like his father Guan Yu. Xing Yuan was in Jingzhou with his father Yu. After Yu flooded the seven armies, Guan Xing went to Hanzhong to report his good news. After the fall of Jingzhou, Guan Yu was killed, Guan Xing and Zhang Bao, the son of Zhang Fei, became friends. He followed Liu Bei to participate in the battle of Wu, and worshipped him as general Longxiang. When he entered the enemy line, he met pan Zhang, the enemy of his father's death, and lost his way after pan Zhang. In the valley, he found a house for lodging. The old man in the house took him in when he saw that he was the son of wusheng. In the third shift, pan Zhang forced himself to stay in the old man's house and met Guan Xing. At this time, Guan Yu, the martial saint, appeared and frightened pan Zhang. Guan Xing immediately killed him and took back the green dragon Yanyue sword. Later, he became one of Zhuge Liang's main generals in the northern expedition of Cao Wei. He killed Dong Xi and cut Yue Ji. Later, he died before Zhuge Liang's sixth northern expedition.
In the folk legend "kill Guan Ping in anger", Guan Xing puts the blame on his elder brother Guan Ping because he accidentally killed a child
