Father Chen Taiqiu
To talk about Chen Yuanfang, we must first talk about his father Chen Taiqiu. "Taiqiu" was originally a place name in Henan Province. Chen Shi, the father of Chen Yuanfang, was the chief executive there, so later generations called him "Chen Taiqiu". Together with Xun Shu, Zhong Hao, and Han Shao, he was known as the four leaders of Yingchuan. They are all famous for their high moral character. His family was poor. When he went to visit Xun Shu, he asked his eldest son Chen Yuanfang to pull the cart. His younger son Ji Fang held the stick and followed the cart. His grandson Chang Wen sat in the car when he was young. When they arrived at Xun's house, Xun Shu held a banquet for them. Eight dragons of Xun's house opened the door for them, one for wine, and the other for food. (see virtue 6. Chen Taiqiu was poor and thrifty in xunlangling, but he had no servants. He made Yuan Fang take the cart, and Ji Fang took the stick and followed him. His long prose was still small and carried it in the cart. At that time, Xunzi's envoy Shu CI answered the door, CI Ming was drinking, Yu Liulong was eating, Wen Ruo was small, and he sat in front of his knees. Yu Taishi played: "the true man travels eastward. This unique scenery has become a local anecdote. People even gave the three portraits of the father and son, which were widely recited. They said that their trip was a "real man's journey to the East" and respected them as "three kings".
"Brother in need"
Mr. Chen's most proud thing in his life should be that he has two sons, Chen Yuanfang and Chen Jifang, who are very talented and knowledgeable, and these two sons have given him great grandchildren. The Chen family is full of talents. One day, Yuan Fang's son Changwen and Ji Fang's son Xiaoxian quarreled. They boasted about their father's merits and virtues. After a long quarrel, they couldn't win. The two dolls ran to their grandfather Chen Taiqiu and asked him to draw a conclusion. I didn't expect the old man to say: "in terms of knowledge and conduct, Yuan Fang and Ji Fang have their own strong points. They are brothers to each other. It's hard to distinguish the superior from the inferior." (see Chapter 8 of moral conduct. Chen Yuan Fangzi is a talented man. He and Ji Fangzi discuss their father's merits and virtues separately. Referring to Taiqiu, Taiqiu said, "Yuanfang is hard to be a brother, Jifang is hard to be a brother. I don't know if the two little brothers will be satisfied with their grandfather's decision, but grandfather's heartfelt satisfaction and admiration, as well as Chang Wen's outstanding talent and learning, can't help but make later generations jealous of their parents! This story has spread widely and become an idiom called "brother in need". The word "Nan" is pronounced Yinping (the colloquial Putonghua "Yisheng"), which originally means "each has its own advantages, and it is difficult to distinguish between the superior and the inferior". Today, it is interpreted as "difficult" of "suffering", and the pronunciation of "difficult" has also become "Qusheng" (the colloquial Putonghua "four tones"), and it has become "people in trouble together, people in the same difficult situation together" meaning. Now, occasionally in some rare articles, the word "Nan" is read as "Yin Ping", which means "satirize the same bad", taking the opposite meaning of its original meaning. But later, no matter what kind of explanation, it was no longer the original face.
Chen Yuanfang has been outstanding since he was a child. In Shishuoxinyu, there are several stories about his childhood
The story of Chen Ji
Story one
When Chen Yuanfang was seven years old, one day his father Chen Taiqiu and a friend agreed to go out together and meet at noon. Noon had passed, and when the friend did not come, Taiqiu left without waiting. Later, the man came. Chen Yuanfang was playing outside the door. The man asked Yuanfang, "is your father at home?" Yuanfang replied, "he has left after waiting for you for a long time." The man got angry and said, "it's not human! I made an appointment to go with others, but I left them behind and left by myself! " Yuan Fang said, "you and my father have an appointment to set out at noon. If you don't arrive at noon, you will be dishonest. It's impolite to scold someone's son for his father." The man felt embarrassed and ashamed, so he got out of the car and wanted to shake hands with Yuanfang, but he didn't want Yuanfang to walk into his door without looking back. (see Fangzheng, Chen Taiqiu and his friends travel in the hope of Japan and China. If you don't get there in the middle of a journey, you'll give up too much, even after you go. Yuan Fang was seven years old at that time, playing outside the gate. The guest asked Yuanfang, "is Zunjun there? "I have not been here for a long time. His friend said angrily, "it's not human! I'll go with you. Yuan Fang said, "you and your family are in the middle of the day. If you don't arrive at the middle of the day, you have no faith; if you scold your father to your son, you are rude. My friend was ashamed and got out of the car. Introduction to Yuanfang.) The author uses Chen Ji's words to explain the importance of "faithfulness" and "courtesy". Chen Yuanfang was a young man. He spoke and acted calmly. Facing the aggressive adults, he pointed out that the other party was not only "faithless", but also "rude". He was righteous and strict, forcing the other party to have no words to answer. He also showed his attitude by brushing his sleeve into the door. When he was seven years old, he had such insight. It was really amazing.
Story 2
Chen Taiqiu's family is poor and has no servants. When a guest comes, Mr. Chen talks with them all night. He orders his eldest son, Yuan Fang, and his fourth son, Ji Fang, to cook for the guests. The two little brothers put the rice in the pot and went to listen to the adults. When they heard this, they forgot to continue cooking rice and cooked the dry rice into porridge. When Mr. Chen came to ask, he answered honestly, only listening to the adults. Mr. Chen then asked them, "what did you hear?" The two brothers quickly recounted all the feelings they got. The main points were clearly remembered. Mr. Chen was very satisfied with them and said, "congee is congee. Why do you have to be steamed rice?" (Suhui 1. Guests stay at Chen Taiqiu, and Taiqiu envoys cook at Yuanfang and Jifang. Guest and Taiqiu discuss, two people into fire, both Committee and eavesdrop. When cooking, forget the food, and the rice falls into the kettle. Taiqiu asked, "why not cook? Yuan Fang and Ji Fang knelt down and said, "you and your guests are listening to each other. When you cook, you forget the food. Now the rice is cooked. Taiqiu said, "do you know something? He said to him, "it's like remembering it. "The two sons knelt down and said," it's easier to win than to lose. Taiqiu said, "well, it's OK. Why do you have to eat? Mr. Chen is a good father. He is very pleased to see that his sons love learning so much. He is not responsible for correcting some minor omissions caused by diligent learning. I believe that since the guests of that day are all able to talk with Mr. Chen all night long, their standards should also be very high. They will never feel that the Chen family is rude to their guests because their two children have not cooked a good meal. They may still be eating when they call their two children to eat together and continue to talk about the topic of knowledge and conduct while eating. This story is the first one of Suhui in Shishuoxinyu, which shows the author's esteem. Chen Yuanfang brothers later became famous for their erudition and talents, which was directly related to the good learning atmosphere they had since childhood and their hard work and active learning.
Story 3
Chen Yuanfang was born into a great family, and his father was a government official. He was very clear about the sophistication of officialdom since childhood. Chen Yuanfang had his own opinion, but he would not say it in the case of the other side's sinister intentions. Instead, he would comment on the ancients, which was not against his will, but also made the other side unable to grasp the handle (see speech 6, Yingchuan prefect Kun Chen Zhonggong). The guest asked Yuanfang, "how is Fu Jun? Yuan Fang said, "a wise king. "How is your family? He said, "a loyal minister and a filial son.". The guest said, "it's easy to say that if two people are of one mind, their benefits will break gold; if they are of one mind, their smell will be like orchid. Why is there a wise king and a punishment
