Zhang Naiyan
Zi junmou, nephew of Zhang Jingjiang, has been a professor of Peking University and Zhejiang University. He is the author of organic dye science, medicinal organic arsenic compounds and military chemistry in European war. He also has a lot of research in historiography, and has written the whole history of the world war, including the history of Greece, the history of Rome and so on. At the age of 33, he was president of the fourth Sun Yat sen University. From 1927 to 1930, he was president of the Fourth National Sun Yat sen University, national Jiangsu University and Central University.

He studied in zhengmeng school, Nanxun Town, Wuxing, Hangzhou Fu Zhong Xue Tang and Soochow Soochow University. He joined the Chinese Kuomintang in 1912. In 1913, he went to Europe to study chemistry in Birmingham University, London Royal Polytechnic University and Geneva University. In 1919, he received a doctorate in science from the University of Geneva and returned to China in the same year. In 1920, he was a professor of chemistry at National Peking University, and also a professor of chemistry at National Beijing Normal University and Beijing Institute of technology. in 1923, he was elected president of Zhejiang Provincial Education Association and concurrently professor of chemistry in Zhejiang Industrial school. In May 1924, he served as a counsellor in Guangzhou headquarters. He was a professor of Shanghai Guanghua University in 1925. In January 1926, he served as a counsellor of the national government of Guangzhou; in February, he served as secretary of the Ministry of foreign affairs; in May, he was appointed as a member of the education administrative committee; at the same time, he served as the chief of engineering of national Guangdong University. In April 1927, he was a member of Jiangsu provincial government and director of the Department of education; in November, he was also president of National Central University. In June 1928, he served as counsellor of the national government college. From 1929 to 1930, he was also a member of the county magistrate Examination Committee of Zhejiang Province. In December 1930, he served as a member of Zhejiang provincial government and was elected as a representative of the national assembly in the same year. In January 1932, he was vice chairman of the Construction Committee. In May 1933, he served as minister plenipotentiary to Belgium and was entrusted by the Construction Committee to investigate the construction cause of European countries. In May 1935, he resigned and returned to China. During the Anti Japanese War, he lived in seclusion in Shanghai and studied landscape painting. He died in Shanghai in 1958. He was 64 years old. His works include the whole history of World War, Yunlu history series, organic dyestuffs, medicinal organic arsenic compounds, military chemistry in European war, etc.
Life of the characters
In 1912, he joined the Chinese Kuomintang. In 1912, he went abroad to study in Europe. He successively studied chemistry at Birmingham University, Royal Polytechnic University of London and University of Geneva in Switzerland. He received his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Geneva in 1919 and returned to China in the same year. In 1949, he was employed as a professor of chemistry in Peking University, Beijing Normal University and Beijing Polytechnic School. In 1923, he was elected president of Zhejiang Provincial Education Association and concurrently professor of chemistry in Zhejiang Industrial school. In January of the next year, he was appointed by Sun Yat Sen as a counsellor of Guangzhou headquarters. Sun Yat Sen adopted the three major policies of uniting Russia, the Communist Party and supporting workers and peasants. He held the first National Congress of the Kuomintang after its reorganization in Guangzhou, and Zhang Naiyan was elected as a member of the Central Committee of the Kuomintang. In 1925, he returned to Shanghai as a professor of chemistry at Guanghua University. Next spring, he served as counsellor of Guangzhou National Government and Secretary of the Ministry of foreign affairs. He was appointed as a member of the education administrative committee in May, and published as president of national Guangdong University in the same year (later changed to Sun Yat sen University). After the victory of the Northern Expedition and the establishment of the capital of Nanjing by Chiang Kai Shek, Zhang Naiyan became a member of the Jiangsu provincial government and director of the Department of education in April 1927. In the autumn of that year, Nanjing National Southeast University was reorganized into National Central University, and Zhang Naiyan was appointed as its first president. In June of the Republic of China, he served as counsellor of the national government. In 1929, Zhang Jingjiang became the chairman of Zhejiang provincial government for the second time, appointed Zhang Naiyan as a member of Zhejiang provincial government, and was elected as a representative of the national assembly. In 1929 and 1930, he was also a member of the county magistrate Examination Committee of Zhejiang Province. In 1931, after Zhang Jingjiang resigned as chairman of Zhejiang provincial government, he still served as chairman of the National Construction Committee. In January 1932, Zhang Naiyan was appointed Vice Chairman of the Construction Committee. In 1933, the national government appointed Zhang Naiyan's special envoy to Belgium. At the same time, he was entrusted by the National Construction Committee to investigate the construction cause of European countries. In 1935, he resigned and returned to China. He lived in Shanghai to recuperate. During this period, he often had friendly contacts with writers and artists Mei Lanfang, Yu Zhenfei, Xu Beihong, Qi Baishi, etc. During the Anti Japanese War, when Shanghai was occupied by Japanese invaders, he lived in seclusion and entertained himself by collecting and appreciating calligraphy and painting relics. On his 60th birthday, because he was born in Jiawu, he was a horse. Xu Beihong gave him a picture of a horse as a birthday gift. Zhang Naiyan devoted herself to his works, including the history of European war, the whole history of World War, Yunlu history series, military chemistry in European war, medicinal organic arsenic chemistry and organic dye chemistry, etc., which were published by Shanghai Commercial Press. He died in Shanghai in 1958 at the age of 65.
