artistic characteristics
Su liupeng is the best at figure painting. Most of his works are based on the common people's customs, ordinary life and popular legends in urban life. The characters in his works, such as peddlers and blind people, are vivid. They are angry, happy and worried. They are dynamic, quiet, naive and deceitful. Their expressions and mentality are all close to each other. They are vivid and depict all aspects of daily life. The line drawing of the figure system and clothing pleats is pure, refined and flexible, which has a great charm. He is good at drawing "finger painting" and often uses "finger and pen" in large-scale figure painting. One finger and one stroke cooperate with each other. They can work and express. The lines turn smoothly, which is quite handy. Su liupeng's landscape paintings and flower colors are also appreciated by the scholars for their light and thick strokes and elegant changes. His "Tongyin Tingqin scroll" is exquisite and meticulous, just like Li Gonglin in the Song Dynasty; his freehand brushwork "stopping Qin and listening to Ruan scroll" is a patriarchal painting style of Huang Shen. In addition to figure painting, Su liupeng can also paint landscapes, flowers and birds, as well as light down heavy color, so he is an all-round painter. All his life, Su liupeng was deeply dissatisfied with the dark society at that time. For this reason, he created a lot of satirical paintings with profound implication and humorous image, which were welcomed by the common people. in his later years, his painting art had reached the level of perfection, and was highly praised by literati. His works such as qingpingdiao, Dongshan Baojie, Taibai Jiujiu and Jiaguan Jinjue are regarded as the treasures of Lingnan Painting.
