Zhou Shang
Zhou Shang (1898-1976) was born in Matang village, Yufeng township (now Pan'an Yushan Town), Dongyang City.
When he was studying in Dongyang middle school in 1919, he was expelled from the May 4th anti imperialist patriotic activities and transferred to Hangzhou Huilan middle school. The next year, he graduated and studied at government expense. He and Zhou Enlai went to work study in France at the same time, specializing in water conservancy. After entering the Engineering Department of the University of Novell in Germany, he obtained a master's degree and a Chartered Engineer's degree. He returned to China in 1929 and served as director of Zhejiang Water Conservancy Bureau. We are committed to harnessing the Qiantang River. Together with the German chief engineer, we have made plans for flood control of the Qiantang River seawall and irrigation facilities of the East and West Tiaoxi by means of aircraft survey and precise survey. In 1931, he undertook the foundation project of Zhakou power plant in Hangzhou and took charge of overcoming difficulties. At the same time, he directed the construction of the embankment project of the Meichi section of the Puyang River and adopted the method of "fixed pile construction" to solve the problem of soil and sand layer. After 1935, he successively held the posts of secretary general and Dean of academic affairs of Shanghai Tongji University, director of Fujian Nanping Public Works Bureau, Professor of Central University, Dean of Beiyang Institute of technology, consultant of Ministry of agriculture and forestry, and Dean of Engineering College of Yingshi University. After May 1949, he served as the chief engineer of Jiangsu Water Conservancy Bureau and deputy chief engineer of Yangtze River Basin Water Conservancy Planning Committee. He also participated in the planning and design of harnessing the Yellow River water disasters and developing the Yellow River water conservancy. In the early 1950s, Premier Zhou Enlai visited the Yellow River construction site, met by accident and said happily, "I've been looking for you, but I don't know where you work. We have been studying in France for more than 30 years now. You studied water conservancy in France in those years. You can use it here. This is a rare chance And then he hugged. In 1955, he participated in the construction of Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge. In 1968, the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge was built. It was an ancient and rare bridge. It was recuperated in Hangzhou.
