personal works
He has made remarkable achievements in the history of Ming and Qing Dynasties, philology, epigraphy and the society of Han Dynasty. He has written many important works and academic papers, such as the research on the change of slaves in Ming Dynasty, the research on the Northeast exiles in the early Qing Dynasty, the history of the Southern Ming Dynasty, the research on the historical materials of the founding of the Qing Dynasty, the research on the historical records of the late Ming Dynasty (the revised edition was published twice after liberation), and the research on the party and society movement between Ming and Qing Dynasty , compiled the collection of historical materials of peasant uprising in the early Qing Dynasty, selected historical materials of peasant uprising in the Ming Dynasty, selected historical materials of social economy in the Ming Dynasty, etc.
contribution
In the process of the formation of these historical achievements, especially after liberation, Xie Guozhen showed great interest in the materials of Ming and Qing Dynasty's note novels, and only he could understand the beauty and prospect. Previously, in the study of history, people paid most attention to and mainly used the official history records, and paid little attention to the notebooks which were not elegant; this was consistent with the development level of the society at that time and the social demand for historical research. since the 1920s, people have begun to pay attention to the study of culturology and grass-roots society, and therefore realize that in order to establish a new historiography, we must broaden the scope of materials, but the systematic understanding of the large use and value of the materials of note novels is slow. To study the history of Ming and Qing Dynasties, it is far from enough to only study the official history of "many things are obscure", "vague" and "rigid and stagnant" biographies. There are also various types of documents to supplement the lack of official history materials. "Only the" actual records "of Ming and Qing Dynasties and the" actual records "of Li Dynasty in our neighbor Korea, which were left over from that time, and the archives stored by the local government at that time We should also look for the local chronicles compiled by the local authorities at that time, the unofficial historical notes and the collections of poems and essays made by the people who have the will to write down in each era. Xie Guozhen, on the other hand, has a special fondness for the sketches. As he said, "when I study history, I focus on the alternation of Ming and Qing Dynasties, and focus on ancient literature and social economy. I collect historical facts and study problems, hoping to find nourishing materials from the unofficial records that people don't pay much attention to." Therefore, Xie Guozhen's introduction, use and publication of Ming and Qing Dynasty's note novels and his understanding of the value of Ming and Qing Dynasty's note novels are an important part of his historical thought system and his important contribution to Ming and Qing Dynasty's historiography.
