Gu Zhenghong
Gu Zhenghong (1905-1925, May 16), male, member of the Communist Party of China, was born in Funing, Jiangsu Province (now Binhai).
In 1921, when his hometown was flooded, he was exiled to Shanghai with his mother. Later, he worked as a worker in No.9 and No.7 cotton factories in Shanghai. In the summer of 1924, he took part in the night school for workers held by the Communist Party of China in Shanghai and the activities of Huxi workers' club, and became an active member of the club. In February 1925, he joined the workers' picket team and strike agitation team, and joined the Communist Party of China in this struggle The Communist Party of China.
On May 15, 1925, in order to protest against the Japanese cotton factory capitalists tearing up the agreement with the Chinese workers, Gu Zhenghong led the workers to rush into the factory to negotiate with them, and was threatened by the Japanese businessmen. When Gu Zhenghong was hit in the thigh, he shook his arms and exclaimed: "workers, unite!" When he was shot again, he grabbed the tree pole and called on the workers to continue the struggle. After being shot twice by the executioner and slashing his head with a knife, he fell into a coma. On the 16th, he died because of his heavy injury and ineffective rescue.

Important deeds
On May 16, 1925, because of Gu Zhenghong's sacrifice, more than 20000 workers of Japanese yarn mill in Western Shanghai issued a declaration, declared a strike, and called on people from all walks of life to support and assist workers in their struggle. Shanghai students first took to the streets, and the industry and commerce also expressed their support. On the 24th, Shanghai people from all walks of life held a public memorial ceremony for martyr Gu Zhenghong in tanziwan, Zhabei. On the 28th, the CPC Central Committee held an emergency meeting and decided to mobilize the masses to hold anti imperialist demonstrations. After that, the strike quickly became the famous "May 30th" anti imperialist patriotic movement.
People's Memorial
After the founding of the people's Republic of China, a memorial hall for martyr Gu Zhenghong was built in Shanghai, and a statue of martyr Gu Zhenghong was built in Shanghai No.2 national cotton factory. Gu Zhenghong memorial hall was established in the hometown of the martyrs. When the people's commune was established in 1958, the hometown of the martyrs was officially named Zhenghong commune. In 2001, the division of Binhai County was adjusted, and the new Zhenghong town was established by merging Zhenghong, Zhanggou and chenzhu. The village and group of the birthplace were named Zhenghong village and Zhenghong group respectively.
Character's former residence
Gu Zhenghong's former residence is located in Zhenghong village, 2 km southeast of Zhenghong street, Zhenghong Town, Binhai County. Originally, it has three thatched cottages with wooden doors and windows, covering an area of 28.7 square meters. In the middle is the "main room" with the main door, and on both sides is the "wing room". After many repairs, it finally collapsed. In May 1998, the people's Government of Jiangsu Province allocated a special fund to repair the former residence in its original place in August of the same year. The former residence is adobe with wheat straw on the wall. It is 11 meters wide, 4.8 meters deep, 1.96 meters high eaves and 3.95 meters high ridge. There are tables, chairs, beds and other relics used by martyr Gu Zhenghong in his lifetime on display. On the walls are portraits of the martyr's youth and precious photos of the martyr's struggle with Japanese capitalists. there is a flower pool in front of the former residence, which is inlaid with a marble tablet issued by the people's Government of Jiangsu Province in 1995 and established by the people's Government of Yancheng City. Gu Zhenghong's former residence is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangsu Province. It was named as Binhai County patriotism education base in June 2010 and Yancheng City patriotism education base in November 2011.
