Life experience
Early experience
Liu long, male, Han nationality, born in the first year of Yuanxing (November 5, 105), is the youngest son of Liu Zhao. When Liu Long's father, Emperor Hanhe Liu Zhao, was alive, he gave birth to many princes, but most of them died young. Emperor Hanhe thought that eunuchs and relatives were plotting against his son, so he left the remaining princes among the people to raise them.
Ascend to the throne as Emperor
On February 13, 106, the first year of Yuanxing, Emperor Hanhe died in the front hall of Zhangde. At this time, Liu Longgang was born more than 100 days ago. According to tradition, Liu Sheng, the eldest son of emperor Hanhe, should inherit the throne. However, Liu Sheng had a strange disease since he was a child, and he did not recover for many years. Deng Sui, Empress of emperor Hanhe, thought that he was not suitable to be emperor. Therefore, Liu long was appointed emperor and Han Shang emperor. His name was changed to Yanping, and his elder brother Liu Sheng was appointed king of Pingyuan. Deng Suijin was promoted to empress dowager, and Deng Sui was in charge.
Die young
On August 21, 1911, the first year of Yanping (September 21, 106), when the Empress Dowager Deng Sui gave orders, Liu long, the emperor, died quietly only 221 days ago. He was only two years old, but in fact he was under one year old. He died prematurely, so his posthumous Title was "emperor Xiaoshang".
After his death, he was buried in Kangling, where his father died, and accompanied him underground. Han Shang emperor is the youngest and shortest emperor in China. He is known as "August emperor" or "hundred day emperor" by historians.
Political initiatives
Politics
After Han Shang emperor ascended the throne, Empress Dowager Deng was in charge. Empress Dowager Deng first took effective measures against some disadvantages of the Eastern Han Dynasty. First, we are opposed to wanton worship. Second, Empress Dowager Deng thinks that the governance of the country should be based on education, and punishment can only be used as an auxiliary means. In May of the first year of Yanping, an imperial edict was issued to grant amnesty to the whole world. All prisoners who broke the law were released as civilians, and the whole world was controlled by judo. Third, in the 80 years from the founding of the Eastern Han Dynasty to the death of the emperor, the number of maids in the palace was increasing, which resulted in the situation of "there were women who complained inside, but there were men who were absent from the palace outside", and increased the financial expenditure of the Han Dynasty. In June of the first year of Yanping, the Empress Dowager Deng, who had been admitted to the palace since she was a child, issued an imperial edict to exempt 500 or 600 people from the Imperial Palace and the old and weak diseases. But after all, Empress Dowager Deng was the general representative of the forces of her relatives. While actively governing the country, she still wanted to consolidate and strengthen her rule. In April of the first year of Yanping, she promoted her elder brother Deng Gu from Huben Zhonglang to a general of motorcycles, controlling the decision-making organs of the inner court.
military
In April of the first year of Yanping (106), Xianbei, one of the Xianbei people in Eastern Liaoning, suddenly attacked Yuyang county (now southwest of Miyun in Beijing) again and returned with a full load. After receiving the report, Yuyang prefect Zhang Xian was furious and called hundreds of brothers to pursue the retreating Xianbei people. The Xianbei people gradually led the Han army into the dangerous area, and Yan advised Zhang Xian not to rush after them, so as to avoid the ambush of the Xianbei people. Yan Shu suggested setting up camp first, sending light cavalry to inquire about it, and then chasing it. Yan Shu's idea was very safe, but Zhang Xian didn't listen. Instead, he thought Yan Shu was timid, so angry that he almost killed him on the spot. In the end, although Zhang Xian didn't kill the general before the battle, he didn't listen to Yan's advice and ordered a quick chase. As a result, he was really ambushed by Xianbei people. Zhang Xianzhong was killed in the battle, and his soldiers ran away. Only Yan Shu, who was called "coward" by Zhang Xian, did not escape. Instead, he killed many enemies. He suffered more than ten injuries and died in the war. After receiving the news of the Yuyang campaign, Deng Sui was very moved. He personally wrote articles for the martyrs, praised them, rewarded their families with a lot of money, and promoted their children to be officials.
Since then, Xianbei people have appeared on the stage of history more and more, and gradually become an important nation in Chinese history.
Economics
In addition to adjusting and eliminating some malpractices, Empress Dowager Deng also paid great attention to frugality and persuading farmers. In June of the first year of Yanping, an imperial edict was issued to reduce the consumption of food, curtains, curios, etc. After that, he also ordered that the tribute of the prefectures and states should be only half of the original amount, and that the brocade, Bingwan, qiluo, gold and silver, jewelry, tortoise shell, carving and other playful objects in charge of the imperial government, Shangfang and weaving room should no longer be made, so as to reduce the huge financial expenditure.
