Lu Yuan, formerly known as Lu zhanchun, was born in November 1922 in tangjiasongzi village, Fengrun County, Hebei Province. In 1942, at the age of 20, he joined the Eighth Route Army.

It is our familiar military song "I am a soldier". The song "I am a soldier" was born after the outbreak of the Korean War and is still widely spread. The author of the lyrics is Lu Yuan, a member of the progressive song and dance troupe of the Shenyang Military Region, a retired cadre of the second cadre sanatorium of the Political Department of the Shenyang Military Region, and an 88 year old Mr. Lu Yuan in 2011.

Although Lu Yuan was not well educated, he loved writing, especially music. At the end of the Anti Japanese War, he studied in the first branch of Yan'an Anti Japanese university. After the victory of the Anti Japanese War, he was assigned to the propaganda team of the 13th independent brigade of Jidong military region. Here, he met Yue Lun (the composer of "I am a soldier"). Later, Lu Yuan's troops were reorganized into the fourth field army. He took part in the Liaoshen and Pingjin campaigns. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, Lu Yuan was appointed as the team leader of Wen Fen, while Yue Lun was appointed as the music team leader. According to the PLA's fighting history from Songhua River to Hainan Island, they jointly completed a song people's fighters. But when the song was auditioned by the army, the soldiers showed indifference and said that the lyrics were not new. Allegro, poetry and doggerel sprang up on the blackboard newspapers and small parties of the company. Lu Yuan found a poem about the barrel of a gun with a slightly complete narrative, in which several sentences are as follows: I used to be a common man / put down my hoe to be a soldier This poem gives Lu Yuan direct inspiration and inspiration. Lu Yuan can't help but think of the lyrics of "common people / common people / carrying guns is soldiers" in an anti Japanese song. As soon as he got involved in this, Lu Yuan's words came out: I am a soldier of China / from the suffering common people / defeat the evil Japanese ghost / destroy the reactionary Chiang Kai Shek bandit army. After a few days, Lu Yuan just came back from the bandit suppression team and met Yue Lun. After dinner, while everyone went out to take a bath, they were on the wooden loft of the dormitory of the Department of general affairs, and they were absorbed in the repeated deliberation of you and me. Finally, they changed the original seven character one sentence lyrics into long and short sentences: "I am a soldier / come from the common people / beat down the Japanese Dog bandits / wiped out the Chiang bandits." Yue Lun absorbed the folk music and the rhythm of the drum, and composed the tune with one beat. After the failure of the great revolution, Xu Haidong was forced to leave his hometown. His three-year-old daughter, Xu Wenjin, was carried away overnight by his third uncle in a basket. After the victory of the revolution, Xu Wenjin found her father in the countryside and asked him to arrange a job for her in the city, but his father didn't agree. Xu Haidong died in Zhengzhou on March 25, 1970. On his deathbed, he shook his daughter Xu Wenjin's hand and shed tears of regret: "I'm sorry for you children all my life..." Xu Haidong, who seldom listens to music, suddenly proposes to listen to the song "I am a soldier". Accompanied by "I am a soldier, from the common people..." The general passed away. In 1951, the back cover of the third issue of the pictorial of the Chinese people's Liberation Army published the choral and carousel lyrics of I am a soldier. In the same year, the song won the first prize in the art competition of the Central South military region, and later won the first prize in the first art performance of the whole army; in 1954, it won the first prize in the national mass song creation. With the active recommendation of the leaders of the General Political Department of the people's Liberation Army and senior artists, "I'm a soldier" was taught and sung by the Central People's radio station. Soon, both the army and the people sang together. It became a household name and spread to the troops going to Korea to fight, encouraging the volunteers to fight with blood.
