Zheng Ji
Zheng Ji (May 6, 1900 - July 29, 2010), protocol guest, was born in liujiazhen, Nanxi, Sichuan Province. He was a biochemist and nutritionist. He graduated from the Biology Department of Central University (Nanjing University) in 1928 and worked in the medical school and Biology Department of Nanjing University for a long time. He died in 2010. The founder of Chinese nutrition, one of the pioneers of Chinese biochemistry, the world's oldest professor and the world's oldest writer.
Character experience
In 1924, he was admitted to the Biology Department of National Southeast University (formerly Nanjing Normal University, renamed Central University in 1928 and Nanjing University in 1949), and graduated from the Biology Department of National Central University in 1928. In 1930, he went to the United States to study biochemistry at Ohio State University, and studied at Yale University and Indiana University. In 1936, he received his doctorate. After returning to China, he served as a researcher of the Institute of Chinese science society, professor and professor of biochemistry in the Medical College of Central University, Professor of East China Military Medical College and the Fourth Military Medical University, Professor of the medical college and Department of biology of Nanjing University, and director of biochemistry teaching and research section. In 1945, he founded the Institute of biochemistry in the Medical College of Central University to train biochemical postgraduates. This is the first formal institution to train biochemical postgraduates in the history of Chinese education. The world is full of peaches and plums. After entering the age of ancient and rare, we started the research on the biochemical mechanism of aging and put forward the theory of metabolic disorder of aging mechanism, which laid the foundation for the aging biochemistry in China.
He successively participated in the establishment of Chinese Nutrition Society and Biochemical Society. He once served as the chairman of the Professor Association of Central University and the first president of the Chinese Nutrition Society.
Zheng Ji is the oldest professor in the world. He has taught in the medical school and Biology Department of Nanjing University for most of his life. In 2004, Nanjing University received a congratulatory letter from the Cambridge International biography center, which awarded him the most successful award in the 21st century. He also sold his family property (real estate), donated it to schools and society, and set up scholarships and academic funds for the poor. Unfortunately, at 18:20 on July 29, 2010, the 110 year old oldest man in Nanjing died forever due to severe infection.
Life story
Research life
At the head of Zheng's bed, there is a schedule: get up at 5 a.m., go to bed at 12:45 p.m., take a nap, and get up at 2:30-3:00 p.m
Aunt Lu, who has taken care of the old man for 14 years, told me the menu of the day before yesterday. For breakfast, I had a cup of milk, two boiled quail eggs, five red dates, three longans, 15-20 wolfberry seeds, and a small piece of bread; at noon, I had a bowl of porridge, fried eggs with leek flowers; at dinner, I had a bowl of lotus root powder and a bean paste bun. Aunt Lu said that sometimes bread will be replaced by cake or egg yolk pie. Steamed buns, lotus root flour, noodles, wonton and porridge are often eaten by old people. Usually, the old man's three meals a day are milk, porridge and lotus root powder. In addition, the elderly should take thirty or forty cents a day of vitamins: vitamin a pill, vitamin B1: 10-20 Mg (10 mg / pill, two pills), vitamin B2: 5-10 mg (5 mg / pill, two pills), vitamin B6: 5-10 mg (5 mg / pill, two pills), vitamin C: 300-600 mg, vitamin E: 50-100 mg. Take it twice a day in the morning and evening. In the face of many nutrition and health supplements in the society, Mr. Zheng made it clear: "I don't advocate taking more supplements, and I have reservations about all kinds of nutrient solutions at present. I think many supplements are for making money and cheating people.". In the aspect of diet and nutrition, he paid attention to reasonable nutrition, meat and vegetable omnivores, and vegetarianism. Eat more vegetables, not animal fat and fat, only vegetable oil, less fried, pickled food and spicy, salty, sweet food. At meal time, eat only eight or nine full meals, chew slowly. He has always lived a regular life, especially in old age. He has a regular diet. His diet is based on the principles of three low (low fat, low energy, low sugar), two feet (sufficient vitamins and dietary fiber) and easy digestion. Mr. Zheng insisted that all regulations should not be changed at will and strictly enforced. He is taking himself as the experimental object and conducting the experiment according to his own scientific research design. It is difficult for ordinary people to realize the daily life in order. However, Professor Zheng Ji is implementing the scientific research project of health preservation with the attitude of a scientist.
Centenarians' pursuit
It is unimaginable that such a long-lived old man, like many ordinary people, has fought against the disease many times in his life: he suffered from tuberculosis in 1916; he was hospitalized for nearly a year and a half after three laparotomy operations from 1961 to 1963; he lost more than 1000 ml of blood in 1997 and was hospitalized for 80 days; he broke his hip in 2001; he was hospitalized for more than four months due to stomach disease in 2004.
Every time he talks about the relationship between life and death, Mr. Zheng always answers it with his debate on life and death, in which he writes: life is death, and the natural law of life and death. Penggu eight hundred autumn, mayflies only day and night. Although the life and death are different, the death is one. There is nothing one can do about the ingenious arrangement of creation. Don't ask for immortality. We should only be careful in health care and avoid extreme. If you have few desires, you will feel comfortable. Moderate work and leisure, especially careful diet. Seek medical treatment early for minor illness, and less anxiety for major illness. When you come, you should be at ease, and strive for self-improvement. To convert to the law of nature is necessary. Don't say the morning glow is beautiful, love the sunset more. In fact, Professor Zheng Ji knows that he is old, but he never thinks about that old character. He takes finding work and suffering as a pleasure. In his opinion, such a choice of course depends on his own health conditions. Mr. Zheng said: forget your age, refuse to be old, devote yourself to science, and die. I'm happy to be old and healthy. I'm not decadent yet. If the weather is like a holiday, I'll write another book. That's what I'm looking for as a centenarian.
In my memoirs published by Zheng Lao in 1980, he said: I like to work all my life. In my youth, I was busy with study and business, and had no special hobbies. After 50 years old, amateur like gardening, engaged in planting vegetables, flowers, trees. After 60, pay attention to physical exercise. In his later years (after 70 years), he gradually became interested in classical literature, especially reading Tang and Song poetry, especially appreciating the works of Lu You, Wang Wei and Southern Tang poets. When he was young, he occasionally wrote some poems to amuse himself. He was also interested in Chinese painting appreciation and tourism. He usually went out to travel once a year in winter and summer. Although he was over 100 years old, he was still quick in mind and strong in body. He was still compiling a history of Chinese biochemistry.
Doctor of nutrition studying abroad
In 1900, Zheng Ji was born in a cold peasant family in Nanxi, Sichuan Province. His family was poor since childhood, and he was weak and ill. He entered the County senior primary school at the age of 14 and graduated first at the age of 17. In 1921, Zheng Ji was admitted to the national Chengdu Normal University, and soon dropped out of school due to illness. Unfortunately, many times he was absent from school due to illness did not hide his talent. Later, with the help of his friends, he was admitted to Southeast University at the age of 22 (later renamed Central University, the predecessor of Nanjing University).
Zheng Ji, who has just entered the University, one day opened the office of Professor Bingzhi, a famous biology professor in China. With his self-study ability, he poured out his ideas of pursuing science for many years. Professor Bing patiently listened to this ambitious young man's interests and hobbies, and helped him choose Chinese, English, chemistry, general zoology taught by himself and botany taught by Professor Qian Chongshu. The personal teaching of the two masters not only made Zheng Ji interested in the chemical changes in his life activities, but also laid a good foundation for him to choose nutrition as his lifelong career in the future. At the same time, he witnessed the real attitude of scholars, which benefited him a lot in morality, character and behavior. After graduating from the University, Zheng Ji remained as a teaching assistant in the Agricultural College of Central University. In 1930, he was admitted to Ohio State University to study biochemistry at public expense. During this period, he studied at the University of Chicago, Yale University and Indiana University. While studying scientific and modern nutrition, he also had the opportunity to learn from a group of world-famous biochemists and nutrition authorities. In the old China of that era, the people did not have enough time to live, and there was no nutritional balance at all. Protein is an indispensable nutrient for human body. It mainly supplies energy for human body, promotes human growth and metabolism. At that time, the Chinese generally lacked protein, and China was a country rich in soybean. For this reason, Zheng Ji chose Chinese soybean as his doctoral dissertation "bio colloid soybean protein". In 1934, he received his doctor's degree and was selected as a member of the American Society for the honor of scientists. However, Zheng Ji's childhood experience of multiple diseases made him feel the pain of the weak constitution of the Chinese people. He was determined to study nutrition, which was also a shame of "sick man of East Asia" and realized the ideal of "saving the country by science". In the spring of that year, he set foot on the journey of returning home, full of enthusiasm to serve his country.
Love nutrition education
After returning to China, Zheng Ji accepted Professor Bingzhi's invitation to work in the Institute of biology, Chinese science society. He set up the first Biochemistry Research Institute in China. In 1935, the Central University established the medical college. Zheng Ji organized the Department of Biochemistry and became one of the earliest professors. Since then, he began his lifelong love of nutrition education.
In the 1930s, there was no self compiled biochemistry textbook in China. In 1937, after the Medical College of CUHK moved to Chengdu, Zheng Ji first compiled an English version of biochemical Practice Guide for teaching needs, which was reprinted three times in the eight years of the Anti Japanese War and used as a guide for the rear schools
