Personal life
Emotional experience
Dai Wangshu had an indissoluble bond with three women in his life. His first love was Shi Zhecun's sister Shi Jiangnian, while his first wife was Mu Shiying's sister Mu Lijuan, and his second wife was Yang Jing. However, none of the three women could stand with him for a lifetime, leaving only a love tragedy that the poet could not let go of in his life. In 1927, when the great revolution failed, Dai Wangshu and Du Heng took refuge at Shi Zhecun's home in Songjiang County. During this period, Dai Wangshu fell in love with Shi Jiangnian, Shi Zhecun's eldest sister. Although Shi Jiangnian was five years younger than him, she was cheerful, lively and full of personality because she was well educated and knew how to feel. She was not as impulsive and introverted as Dai Wangshu. The difference in their personalities caused the imbalance in their feelings. In addition, the scar on Dai Wangshu's face after his childhood smallpox also made Shi Jiangnian unhappy, which cast a shadow on their love. In 1928, Dai Wangshu forced him to jump from a building, but Shi Jiangnian had no choice but to accept Dai Wangshu. In 1931, they got engaged. Shi Jiangnian had already fallen in love with others, so she wanted Dai to finish his studies to ensure that the economy would not hinder him and urged him to study abroad. The next year, Dai Shouyue went to France to study. In France, it was not long before the news of Shi Jiangnian's empathy came. Dai Wangshu was very sad and didn't want to learn. In May 1935, Dai Wangshu returned to Shanghai and confirmed that Shi Jiangnian had moved his love. He slapped Shi Jiangnian in the face in public, and then published a newspaper to terminate his engagement, ending his eight year long bitter love. Dai Wangshu, immersed in the pain of lovelorn, lived in Liu Naou's apartment in Jiangwan Park and was close to Mu Shiying's family. In order to heal Dai Wangshu's love wounds, Mu Shiying introduced her sister Mu Lijuan to Dai Wangshu. Mu Lijuan, who was 12 years younger than him, was fascinated by Dai Wangshu for her purity and beauty, which made him break away from his emotional predicament. In 1936, they held a grand wedding in Shanghai. Mu Lijuan admired his talent and came together with him. They should have a good married life. Unfortunately, Dai Wangshu didn't know how to love a woman at all. At home, he only read and wrote by himself and seldom communicated with his wife. When he left him, he regretted and forced his wife to come back again. However, this time, he failed to force his wife back. In the winter of 1940, Dai Wangshu had no choice but to sign the divorce agreement. Dai Wangshu fell into the tragedy of love again. In 1942, Dai Wangshu met Yang Jing, a scribe in Datong library and Printing Bureau, and soon fell in love. Despite her parents' strong opposition, Yang Jing is a girl full of personality. She broke through all kinds of obstacles and resolutely married Dai Wangshu, 21 years older than her. Yang Jing grew up in Hong Kong. She was petite, beautiful, lively and active. She was only 16 years old when she got married. Due to the differences in their personalities and ages, and the lack of in-depth understanding before marriage, she had emotional cracks soon after marriage and often quarreled over trivial matters in her life. At the end of 1948, Yang Jing fell in love with a young man surnamed CAI and proposed a divorce to Dai Wangshu. Dai Wangshu made all kinds of efforts to recover the situation. However, Yang Jing's intention was irretrievable, and Dai Wangshu had to not sign the divorce agreement. Yang Jing is helpless to run away with a young man surnamed CAI.
Be fond of books
Like reading and buying books is the common hobby of literati, Dai Wangshu is fond of books. The literati who like books, even if they can't afford to buy books because of their lack of money, will have a lot of fun just by looking at and touching them. Dai Wangshu likes to go to the bookstall on the left bank of the Seine River. He said: "even if you go back empty handed, you will be very satisfied with your selfishness. Moreover, the Seine River is so graceful at dusk!" When Dai Wangshu studied in France, although he had no food and clothing and was in a foreign land, as long as he had money, he would always do what he could. Over time, he bought a lot of books. Shi Zhecun, a good friend, was envious of this. When he wrote to Dai Wangshu, he said, "I heard that you have many books coming. I really want to see them as soon as possible." Shi Zhecun also often entrusts him to help buy books. When two good friends face good books, they always want to have them. When Shi Zhecun talked about Dai Wangshu's letter about the grand occasion of the book industry in Paris, he always sighed pitifully: "I just hate having no money, otherwise I will send you three or four hundred yuan to buy a large number of new books. Even though I haven't sent any more books, I still have no hope.
