Yu Hua
Yu Hua, born in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province on April 3, 1960, is a contemporary Chinese writer.
In 1978, after failing in the college entrance examination, his parents arranged to enter the health center as a dentist. In 1983, he published his first short story the first dormitory. In 1987, he published short stories such as a long journey at the age of 18, the event of April 3 and 1986, and established himself as a pioneer writer. In the same year, he went to Beijing Lu Xun University for further study. In 1990, he published his first collection of novels, a long journey at the age of 18, through the writer's publishing house; in the same year, he published his first novel, cry in the drizzle. In 1992, he published the novel living. In 1995, his novel "Xu Sanguan selling blood" was published in harvest magazine. He was born in Hangzhou hospital of Zhejiang Province at noon on April 3, 1960. In 1962, due to his father's job transfer, the whole family moved to Haiyan County. From 1967 to 1977, he studied in Xiangyang primary school and Haiyan middle school in Haiyan County. During this period, he cultivated his interest in literature through books in Haiyan County Library and big character newspapers on the street. In 1977, he took part in the first college entrance examination after the cultural revolution and failed.
In March 1978, he was arranged by his parents to work as a dentist in Wuyuan health center of Haiyan County. Yearning for the work of Haiyan cultural center, 19-year-old Yu Hua began to write. In 1979, he went to Ningbo to study stomatology. During that time, he came into contact with Kawabata Yasunari's works, which played an important role in his early creation. From 1980 to 1982, almost all the time except work was spent on reading and writing.
In January 1983, he published the short story "the first dormitory" in the first issue of West Lake magazine; in December 1983, he published the short story "pigeon, pigeon" in the influential Youth magazine at that time, and then he was seconded to Haiyan County Cultural Center.
In January 1984, he published the short story "Star" in Beijing literature, followed by "bamboo girl" and "the moon shines on you, and the moon shines on me", among which "Star" won the award of "Beijing literature" of that year; in May, he published the short story "man has tears but does not flick lightly" in Donghai magazine; in August, he was officially transferred to Haiyan County Cultural Center.
In 1987, he published the short stories "a long journey at the age of 18" and "noon in the northwest wind" in Beijing literature, and at the same time, he published "the event of April 3" and "1986" in harvest magazine. From then on, he established his position among Chinese avant-garde writers. In February of the same year, he went to Beijing Lu Xun literary college to attend a literature workshop. In 1988, he published short stories such as "a kind of reality" and "the world is like smoke"; in September of the same year, he entered the graduate class of creation jointly organized by Lu Xun College of literature and Beijing Normal University, and studied with Mo Yan, Liu Yiran, etc. During his study in Lu Xun College of Arts, he began to contact a large number of modern writers' works, including Marquez, William Faulkner, Juan Rulfo and so on, and successively created a large number of avant-garde short stories.
In April 1989, he was invited by Shandong TV station to travel through the West with Liu Yiran and other students in the writer class. Along the way, he visited Xinjiang, Gansu, Qinghai, Tibet and other places, and wrote a special film "crossing the west" for Shandong TV station. In September, he published his paper "fictitious works" in Shanghai literary theory. In addition, he also published a number of avant-garde short and medium stories such as "this document for young girl willow", "past events and punishment", "blood plum blossom" in Zhongshan, Beijing literature, people's literature and other magazines; at the end of the year, he was transferred to Jiaxing Federation of literary and art circles to write for the magazine "Yanyu building".
In 1990, he published his first collection of novels, a long journey at the age of 18. In addition to reading, he also started the writing of the first novel "shout in the drizzle". At the end of the year, after graduating from the postgraduate class, he returned to Jiaxing to continue his creation after obtaining a master's degree in literature. In 1991, the second collection of novels, accident, was published, and in the same year, his first novel, cry in the drizzle, was published in harvest magazine.
In 1992, Xu Fu and his family went to work together for the same year. The book was later translated into French, English, Japanese, Korean, German, Italian and other languages.
In August 1993, he was transferred from Jiaxing Federation of literary and art circles and settled in Beijing, where he began to write professionally. In 1994, Yu Hua's works have been widely translated into other countries in various languages. His novel adaptation of "living" won the jury award of the 47th Cannes International Film Festival. In 1995, his novel "Xu Sanguan selling blood" was published in harvest magazine. The book tells that in China in the 1950s and 1960s, Xu Sanguan, as the head of his family, was forced to sell blood again and again by life. In 1997, at the request of Wang Hui, he began to write essays for Dushu magazine. In June 1998, he won the highest prize of Italian literature, the greenzana Carver prize for literature. In 1999, at the appointment of Li Xiaolin and Cheng Yongxin, he wrote music essays for harvest magazine; in the same year, he published a collection of essays "can I believe in myself", including 23 reading and music essays; in May of the same year, he went to the United States for a one month visit; in June, he visited South Korea.
In May 2000, he participated in the book fair in Turin, Italy, and held a reading tour in Austria and Germany at the invitation of the German publishing house. On May 30, the Chinese online website was established to take shares in his works and join the network new culture movement. In October, he visited Korea at the invitation of the Korean national literature writers' conference. In 2003, the English version of Xu Sanguan's selling blood published by Random House won the Barnes Nobel Prize for newly discovered books in the United States. In August, he went to the United States to participate in the international writing program of the University of Iowa and gave a lecture tour in 30 famous American universities. In February 2004, he was invited to give a lecture on Lu Xun's literature at the University of California, Berkeley; in March 2004, he went to Paris to attend the 24th French book fair, during which the French Minister of culture awarded Yu Hua the Knight Medal of French literature and art.
In August 2005, he launched the upper part of the novel brothers, which tells the story of the hardships experienced by Li guangtou and Song Gang, two brothers in the reorganized family in the small town, in the 1960s and 1970s and in the early stage of reform and opening up. In the same year, he won the fourth China Book Special Contribution Award. In March 2006, the second half of the novel brothers was released. Because of its extremely realistic writing, it caused great controversy in China, and was not selected for the seventh Maodun literature award because of its "low taste".
